this quick beaded crochet ornament cover will dress up any christmas ball ornament and makes a great project for ornament swaps. it is also a great carry with you project that takes very little space in your project bag.
multiple rows of chain loops cover the ornament quickly and allow the ornament to show through a bit for contrast. clear faceted beads on the final loops add weight to help the cover hang properly and add sparkle. once you get the hang of the pattern it should take no more than 30 to 45 minutes top to complete one cover.
you can easily add your own variations to this pattern by changing the number of rows of loops or adding beads to more stitches in the final loops. you could also use small pendants instead of round beads for a more victorian look.
- #10 crochet cotton - about 15 yards (we used metallic knit-cro-sheen in gold for the example project)
- 2 1/2 inch diameter ball christmas ornament (we used a shatterproof plastic ornament)
- size f crochet hook (you can use a larger hook to adjust cover size for larger ornaments)
- 13 beads (we used 6mm plastic faceted clear beads)
the finished ornament cover measures a bit more than 7 inches in circumference.
loosely ch 6; sl st in beginning ch to form ring (if you have trouble making this loose enough to fit over the ornament top try a g hook)

small beads will lie flat against the ornament easier.
when using a metallic thread take care to keep the thread from tangling/winding up so that the ornament cover loops will lie flat on the ornament.
if your ornament has a large top you can ch 12 to make your initial loop and skip to row 2 instructions to make a larger opening.
like this page then, send me pictures of your finished products or other craft ideas. i will post them here.
